According to recently published report on “Top 10 Web Services & Apps of Year 2010” by Digit Magazine, India’s one of the most reputed & trusted IT journal ~ Here the list of all those web applications, which became the part & parcel of our daily life. Few latest brands are also mentioned in the listing. Once upon a time, I remembered except Orkut & Yahoo mails none of the web applications’ familiar to us…better to say really not available on net. Hardly people get time to open Indiatimes portal esp Photo Gallery. Later on, so many services had docked in the Indian Internet pool. From Yahoo to Gmail, Orkut to Facebook & Indiatimes to Google. Story still continues…….

Office Web Apps (Microsoft)
Office Web Apps is a free web-based version of Microsoft’s Office productivity suite. It includes the web-based versions of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft OneNote. The web apps allow users to access their documents directly from anywhere within a web browser as well as share files and collaborate with other users online. The freeware web application offered so many services like Spreadsheet, Presentation, Note-making, Word Processor, & other web utilities. Customers can access the services through Windows Live, Hotmail, Doc.com & Facebook messages. “A great deal in terms of integrated applications”.

Google Docs (Google)
Google Docs is a free, Web-based word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, form, and data storage service offered by Google. It allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with other users. Google Docs combines the features of editing and Spreadsheets with a presentation program incorporating technology designed by Tonic Systems. Data storage of any files up to 1GB each in size was introduced on January 13, 2010. Mobile Google Docs allows mobile phone users to browse their Google Docs documents in a mobile browser. Google Docs also claimed over privacy issues, but later all were fixed out by Google.
Google Docs is one of many cloud computing document-sharing services.

GMAIL (Google)
Gmail is a free, advertising-supported webmail, POP3, and IMAP service provided by Google. Gmail was launched as an invitation-only beta release on April 1, 2004and it became available to the general public on February 7, 2007, though still in beta status at that time. The service was upgraded from beta status on July 7, 2009, along with the rest of the Google Apps suite. As of November 2010, it had 193.3 million users monthly.
In 2009 Google brought Push Mail support to its Gmail service using Google Sync for iPhone and iPod Touch platforms. Google commenced their new service, Google Buzz, which integrates with Gmail allowing users to share links and media, as well as status updates.
Gmail was ranked second in PC World’s “100 Best Products of 2005″, behind Mozilla Firefox.

Twitter, the proud name in the world of micro-blogging. Twitter became one of the most popular online services offered by any another firm. Express whatever you want in just 140 Words! FACEBOOK
World’s No.1 Social Networking Website, Facebook ranked 5th in the Top 10 Web Services offered across the web pool. In July 2010 Facebook has more than 500 million active users; Users may create a personal profile, add other users as friends and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile. Additionally, users may join common interest user groups, organized by workplace, school, or college, or other characteristics. Users can communicate with friends and other users through private or public messages and a chat feature. They can also create and join interest groups and “like pages” (formerly called “fan pages”, until April 19, 2010), some of which are maintained by organizations as a means of advertising. The system, to be available to all of the website’s users, combines text messaging, instant messaging, emails, and regular messages, and will include privacy settings similar to those of other Facebook services. Codenamed “Project Titan,” Facebook Messages took 15 months to develop.

UBUNTU ONE
Ubuntu One is a storage application and service operated by Canonical Ltd. and currently in public beta. The service enables users to store and sync files online and between computers. Ubuntu one featured as planned like enabling users to share files over the local network (instead of using the Ubuntu One Cloud), synchronizing Firefox Bookmarks with Ubuntu One, streaming music bought with Ubuntu One Music Store and synching applications installed (or bought) from Ubuntu Software Center across multiple computers.

SKYPE
Skype is a software application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet. Calls to other users within the Skype service are free, while calls to both traditional landline telephones and mobile phones can be made for a fee using a debit-based user account system. Skype has also become popular for its additional features which include instant messaging, file transfer, and video conferencing. Skype is always known for its Poor customer service. People too reported in the past about billing errors & all. Many disputes are still pending across the world. India too spoken to Skype about the data transfer to outside server matter. Security concern is major issue behind Skype’s stability.

PICASA (Google)
Picasa is an image organizer and image viewer for organizing and editing digital photos, plus an integrated photo-sharing website, originally created by Idealab and owned by Google since 2004.”Picasa” is a blend of the name of famed Spanish painter Pablo Picasso; the phrase mi casa for “my house”, and “pic” for pictures (personalized art). In July 2004, Google acquired Picasa and began offering it as a free download.
Hello by Google’s Picasa was a free computer program that enabled users to send images across the Internet and publish them to their blogs.

Aviary
Aviary is a suite of proprietary web-based multi-media applications currently under development by Worth1000, using the Adobe Flex platform. Tools are as – Image editor, Node based visual laboratory, Color swatches and palettes creator, Codenaming, Vector editor, Firefox Screen Capture Add-On, Image Markup, Audio editor, and Beat generator. Aviary is free for all users and without limitations.
There are still many other applications awaited in the market with new trending features & updated version. Hopefully in the coming years will too get the taste them.
